BIOGRAPHY
Richard J. O'Brien is the founder and Chief Executive Officer
of Athena Real Estate. He has spent time, both while with
GE Capital Real Estate and then FelCor Lodging Trust, working
on commercial real estate with an embedded operating component
(i.e., specialty collateral types including hotels, manufactured
housing, self storage, marinas, etc.).
From June 2001 through April 2004, Rick was Chief Financial
Officer and Executive Vice President of FelCor Lodging Trust,
which at that time, was the 2nd largest public hotel REIT.
FelCor had more than $4 billion invested in approximately
160 hotels in 35 states and Canada.
Prior to FelCor, Rick was with GE Capital Corporation (GECC)
and its commercial real estate division (GE Capital Real Estate)
as a Managing Director of Business Development. He was with
GECC for eight years from 1992 to 2001. While with GECC, he
served in a variety of leadership roles focused on the growth
and operational excellence of the business. Transaction experience
is significant and broad in scope in commercial real estate
including acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, technology
related ventures, and numerous capital market transactions.
While with GE Capital Real Estate, he placed emphasis on
growing the business through specialty areas including manufactured
housing communities, net lease transactions, marinas, vacation
ownership lending, technology investments, and hotels.
Rick also held management positions with J.P. Morgan and
KPMG. He started his career as a CPA in 1984.
